Tesla’s senior director of US HR, Allie Arebalo, has departed from the company amidst a wave of layoffs affecting hundreds of employees.
According to two individuals familiar with the matter, Arebalo recently vacated her position, although it remains unclear whether she was part of the extensive job cuts or if she voluntarily stepped down.
Arebalo had been serving in her role since February 2023 and had been with Tesla for over six years, holding various positions within the company.
Her departure coincides with Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s decision to let go of the team responsible for the construction of the company’s highly regarded Supercharger charging stations.
Despite this move, Musk reassured the public via X, a platform he owns, that Tesla still plans to expand the Supercharger network, albeit at a slower pace for new locations, with a heightened focus on ensuring 100% uptime and enhancing existing locations.
The recent layoffs impacted approximately 500 employees, as announced in an email on Monday. Arebalo is not the only senior figure to exit Tesla recently.
Musk disclosed that two executives, Rebecca Tinucci and Daniel Ho, senior director of the Supercharger group and head of new products, respectively, would also be departing. Tinucci and Ho were based in the San Francisco Bay Area, while Arebalo was located in Austin, Texas.
The locations of the remaining affected employees at the time of their termination are unclear. Earlier this month, Tesla reduced the prices of five models by $5,000 in an effort to stimulate sales following a decline.
Simultaneously, the company revealed plans to cut 10% of its global workforce, amounting to around 14,000 jobs.
In an internal memo, Musk expressed his displeasure at having to reduce the workforce but stated that it was necessary to ensure Tesla remained “lean, innovative, and hungry for the next growth phase cycle.”
On the same day as the job cuts announcement, two prominent Tesla executives, Andrew Baglino and Rohan Patel, revealed their departure from the company via X, another platform owned by Musk.
Baglino served as senior vice president of powertrain and energy engineering, while Patel held the position of senior global director of public policy and business development.
