Apple is rolling out live election updates for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users, making it easy to track US presidential and congressional race results in real time. This feature allows users to receive electoral updates directly on their lockscreens, with the ability to view live electoral counts and other critical race information without needing to open an app. For those with newer iPhones, Dynamic Island will support this live update, letting users monitor results while multitasking on their devices.
To access these live updates, users must first register through the Apple News app. By tapping on the “Follow the 2024 election live” banner or finding “Election 2024” under the Special Coverage section, users can enable a notification that confirms Live Activity updates are activated. Once set up, users will automatically receive timely updates on their device’s lockscreen.
This feature will be active as the election votes are counted, covering both presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, as well as key Senate and House races. AppleInsider has reported that this Live Activity feature will also extend to Apple Watches, giving more users access to this continuous update service across Apple’s ecosystem of devices.
Apple News previously experimented with this type of real-time election coverage, offering caucus results via Live Activities earlier in the year. The expansion of this service during the general election is part of Apple’s effort to provide accessible, on-demand information for those closely following the election outcomes, especially for those who value staying informed without interruptions.
