Boeing’s aircraft delivery delays have posed significant challenges for Lufthansa, according to CEO Carsten Spohr, who expressed frustration over the situation in a recent interview.
While acknowledging the financial impact on his company, Spohr expressed confidence in Boeing’s ability to address the issues.
In an interview with Switzerland’s Neue Zuercher Zeitung, Spohr emphasized the inconvenience and financial burden caused by the delays but remained optimistic about Boeing’s capacity to resolve them.
He stressed the importance of having two strong aircraft manufacturers in the industry, highlighting Airbus as Boeing’s European counterpart.
Regarding the possibility of purchasing Chinese aircraft, Spohr expressed skepticism, citing Lufthansa’s stringent safety standards.
He indicated that such a move would not be feasible in the near future.
Spohr also addressed Lufthansa’s planned stake purchase in Italy’s ITA Airways, expressing confidence in obtaining regulatory approval.
He dismissed the notion of relinquishing transatlantic flights to North America as a concession for approval, underscoring the airline’s commitment to maintaining its operations in that market.
