eBay Inc. is set to introduce a seamless, end-to-end buying and selling experience for trading cards this summer.
Having completed a series of previously announced transactions with Collectors, the parent company of PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), eBay has strategically partners with PSA, a trading card authentication and grading company, for about two years.
Under these transactions, eBay sold the eBay vault to PSA and acquired Goldin, a U.S.-based auction house specializing in high-value trading cards and collectibles, from Collectors. Additionally, eBay entered a commercial agreement with Collectors to create a new, integrated trading card vault product offering.
This partnership aims to streamline the buying, grading, storing, and selling processes for collectors of all types, merging eBay’s marketplace platform with PSA’s expert grading services and vault product.
The new experience, slated to launch in summer 2024, will come with a suite of features:
Customers will now have seamless access to the vault for buying or selling on eBay, grading with PSA, or directly storing items in the vault for insured storage.
For cards sent to PSA for grading, customers can choose to sell them on eBay, store them in the vault, or have them returned home, simplifying the process and reducing shipping costs and time.
The PSA app will offer a complete collection and inventory management experience, including real-time tracking of item value through recent transactions and utilizing PSA’s pricing data.
eBay will integrate real-time transaction data and PSA population report data directly into listings for relevant collectibles, providing information on item rarity, grading distribution, and pricing.
Through image-based listing capabilities, eBay customers can scan graded trading cards to quickly and accurately create listings, including attributes like certification number, product, set, year, team, player, and features such as parallels, foils, and insert and card number.
“eBay is relentlessly focused on providing the best inventory and the highest level of trust for our global community,” said Jamie Iannone, CEO of eBay. “These deals further our mission of reinventing the future of e-commerce for enthusiasts, and we believe our shared expertise will inspire even more people to sell, shop, and collect with confidence.”
“The most exciting part about this partnership between PSA and eBay is on the horizon, and we cannot wait to introduce a game-changing experience that will benefit collectors at all levels,” said Collectors CEO Nat Turner.
“I am thrilled for Goldin to join eBay and begin its next chapter introducing a whole new audience to our curated Elite auctions, the Goldin 100 and our amazing selection of one-of-a-kind collectibles and sports memorabilia,” said Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin.
Founded in 1995 in San Jose, Calif., eBay facilitated more than $73 billion of gross merchandise volume in 2023.
