During a week-long crackdown on business crime last month, police apprehended 25 individuals in efforts to curb offenses, with approximately 250 firms receiving visits from Cambridgeshire Police to provide guidance.
Charges were pressed against individuals for various crimes including shoplifting, business burglary, breaches of criminal behavior orders, assaults, criminal damage, and possession of weapons. A total of 60 charges were filed, with 32 relating to theft from shops.
The initiative, which occurred from March 18 to 24, was part of a nationwide police campaign aimed at reducing the traditional increase in retail crime during the spring season.
Neighborhood policing teams dedicated extensive time to engaging with businesses, including those in Peterborough, to offer crime prevention advice.
Inspector Sam Tucker, leading the effort, emphasized the importance of supporting businesses in combatting crimes like shoplifting and abuse directed at staff.
Tucker highlighted the misconception that crimes like theft, retail crime, and criminal damage are of lesser priority, emphasizing the significant impact they have on victims, businesses, and employees, including financial loss, abuse, threats, and intimidation.
