Avengers: Who will be the new characters in the Marvel hero group?

Marvel’s planning for its upcoming films in Phases 4 and 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe does not include a new Avengers movie, but Kevin Feige – president of Marvel Studios – recently stated that more films from the superhero group are coming in some moment. Phase 4 initiated by WandaVision and Phase 5 promises important new comic book superheroes, as well as dangerous Marvel villains who will be major threats in the future.

So it shouldn’t be long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe has a new core group to combat these threats. It is worth remembering that the original team suffered great losses in Avengers: Endgame, such as the death of Black Widow ( Scarlett Johansson ) and Iron Man ( Robert Downey Jr. ), old and retired Captain America ( Chris Evans ), Hawkeye ( Jeremy Renner ) retired with his family on the farm and even Thor ( Chris Hemsworth ) exploring space with the Guardians of the Galaxy. So what would this team be like?

Thinking about it, AdoroCinema separated some new characters that appeared or will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and should be part of a new Avengers team.

YELENA BELOVA – BLACK WIDOW

As Natasha Romanoff died in Ultimatum, the Black Widow solo film will show her origin and explain what happened to the character between the films Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, when she becomes an international fugitive after having violated the Sokovia Agreements. In addition, it has been confirmed that Scarlett Johansson will “pass the baton” to Florence Pugh, who will play Yelena Belova in the film.

In Marvel comics, fans know that Belova takes the name of Black Widow, even though she was known as a more violent killer than Natasha. But, Florence Pugh’s character is unlikely to follow the same path at UCM, and she should be part of the Avengers team sooner or later.

SHANG-CHI

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will present the first Asian superhero from the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Shang-Chi, who will be played by Simu Liu. He is a young Chinese man raised by his father in seclusion, being trained in martial arts. When he has the chance to get in touch with the rest of the world, he soon realizes that his father is not the humanitarian he claimed to be, being forced to rebel.

His father will be none other than Mandarin, one of Marvel’s most feared and known villains, who will finally win an original version played by Tony Leung, after the fake one presented in Iron Man 3 . As a Martial Arts Master and considered one of the best fighters in the comics, he is prepared to be one of the coolest and toughest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will guarantee him a spot on the Avengers team.

SERSI AND THE BLACK KNIGHT

The Eternals is a film that can dramatically change the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Chloé Zhao – Oscar winner for Nomadland -, the story will explore the cosmic universe more deeply and present a powerful new group, the Eternals, heroes originating from the first beings to have inhabited the Earth. But, could any of the Eternals be part of the Avengers?

New characters like Sersi, who will be played by Gemma Chan, and the Black Knight, who will be played by Kit Harington, are the main candidates. They were part of the Avengers in the Marvel comics, where they live a romance. Sersi is a very powerful witch and the Black Knight is very skilled with a sword, which he perfected with his physical knowledge.

SAM WILSON – CAPTAIN AMERICA

Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, is not a new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Hawk and the Winter Soldier officially introduced him as the new Captain America and even had Captain America 4’s film confirmed.
The new Avengers team will need a leader and that leadership can be exercised by Sam Wilson, after all, Steve Rogers was one of the main leaders before retiring.

JANE FOSTER – THOR

Like Sam Wilson, Jane Foster of Natalie Portman is not a new character but will take on a new cloak in Thor: Love and Thunder. She must take the Mjolnir hammer after the Thunder God is unworthy, and become Mighty Thor.
In the comics, the character eventually became a member of the Avengers, so the films are likely to follow this story, being able to use Jane Foster as their main Thor instead of what we know and love played by Chris Hemsworth.
