HMD has introduced its latest smartphone, the HMD Skyline, targeting Gen Z users who prioritize high-quality photography. According to HMD’s announcement, the Skyline combines aesthetics with functionality, featuring a sharp, rectangular design with a matte finish and a 6.5-inch pOLED display. This screen boasts a 144Hz refresh rate, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and offers a 20:9 aspect ratio for an immersive visual experience.
Under the hood, the Skyline is powered by Qualcomm’s 2023 Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC, but its standout feature is the camera system. The front-facing camera includes a 50MP sensor with autofocus and eye-tracking capabilities, tailored to appeal to content creators and social media enthusiasts.
The phone also offers convenient “selfie gestures” allowing users to take photos without touching the screen, simply by making certain hand signals.
On the back, the Skyline features a vertical triple camera array, including a 108MP main sensor, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens equipped with Capture Fusion Technology. This setup promises high-quality images with features like a 50mm lens for portrait shots and 4x zoom capability for detailed close-ups.
HMD continues to emphasize ease of repair with the Skyline, introducing a second-generation tech that simplifies the repair process. This includes a screw-driven camshaft to facilitate screen replacements, which reduces the number of steps needed to repair the device. The company also highlights a “Detox Mode” that blocks disruptive apps and contacts, allowing users to enjoy uninterrupted downtime.
The HMD Skyline is equipped with a 4,600mAh battery, offering up to 48 hours of use between charges. It supports wireless charging at 15W through Qi2 technology and promises high battery longevity with 80% capacity retention over 800 full charge cycles.
The phone includes up to 256GB of internal storage, expandable via MicroSD, and 12GB of RAM. Priced at $500, the Skyline will be available in the U.S. starting in August, with color options including Neon Pink and Twisted Black.
