Samsung’s Edge Panels feature introduced a decade ago, allowed users to access frequently used apps, tools, and widgets with ease. This side panel was customizable, and Samsung even let users download custom Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store, enhancing personalization. However, with the release of One UI 7, the company is changing how users interact with this feature, removing the option to download additional Edge Panels.
After updating to One UI 7, users will no longer be able to download new Edge Panels from the Galaxy Store. Although any Edge Panels downloaded prior to the update will still be available, users will lose the ability to re-download or install them again if they uninstall them. This decision limits customization options, especially for those who enjoy the ability to personalize their Edge Panels by downloading different ones.
For those with new devices running One UI 7, Samsung does provide a workaround. If users previously downloaded Edge Panels on older devices, they can install them again through the “My apps” section of the Galaxy Store. While this option offers some continuity, it still doesn’t fully restore the flexibility that users had with the ability to download new panels from the store.
While Samsung continues to include several pre-installed Edge Panels, such as those for contacts, apps, and Smart Select tools, the customization options are now more limited. Users can still edit these default panels, but the removal of downloadable panels has sparked concerns. Hopefully, Samsung will respond by enhancing the built-in customization features of Edge Panels to compensate for the loss of downloadable options, allowing users to maintain a personalized experience.
