In a recent battery life test by the YouTube channel MrWhosetheboss, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra demonstrated a clear advantage over the iPhone 16 Pro Max. While the iPhone 16 series showed improvements compared to previous models, the results indicated that Apple still trails behind its main competitor in battery performance. This discrepancy raises questions about the effectiveness of Apple’s claims regarding enhanced battery life.
The launch of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series was met with mixed reactions, largely due to the absence of the anticipated Apple Intelligence feature. The hardware updates in these new models represent an evolution rather than a revolutionary change, which has been the trend in recent iPhone releases. This gradual approach may have disappointed some users who were hoping for more significant advancements.
Apple highlighted the larger batteries in the iPhone 16 lineup, claiming that the Pro Max version offers four extra hours of video playback compared to its predecessor, while the standard iPhone 16 provides an additional two hours. However, real-world performance is the ultimate test of these claims, which is where Arun Maini’s experiment becomes relevant.
Maini’s battery test simulated real-life usage, incorporating popular applications such as social media, YouTube, and Slack. The test included the various models from the iPhone 16 series, older iPhone 15 variants, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The results showed the S24 Ultra excelled with a battery life of 12 hours and 31 minutes, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max managed 11 hours and 22 minutes.
Although the iPhone 16 models performed better than their predecessors, they fell short of competing with the superior battery life of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This test highlights that despite Apple’s advancements in efficiency and battery capacity, Samsung remains the leader in battery performance for 2024, indicating a potential area for Apple to improve in the future.
