Mortal Kombat 1 is just a few weeks away from its release, and NetherRealm Studios continues to build excitement for the game as anticipation among fans grows.
Recently, the studio released a new advertisement for Mortal Kombat 1 featuring actor and former professional wrestler Dave Bautista. This ad pays homage to the original Mortal Monday commercial from 1993.
Today, a new video was released showcasing Bautista playing Mortal Kombat 1 and sharing his thoughts on what the franchise means to him. The video also includes additional footage of Scorpion and Liu Kang in action.
In the new Mortal Kombat 1 advertisement, Bautista stars as a librarian who walks through a library and whispers “Mortal Kombat” to a young man studying at a table.
Echoing the original 90s commercial, the phrase “Mortal Kombat” begins to spread throughout the city, culminating in a large crowd shouting it.
Bautista also performs the iconic scream at the end of the commercial.
The new video presents a more subdued Bautista compared to his role in the advertisement. He mentions that his voice is hoarse from all the screaming, suggesting that the video was shot during the filming of the ad.
Bautista expresses his gratification for being part of the advertisement, citing his personal connection to the franchise. He reminisces about playing the game in his youth and shares his favorite fighters.
“When I was younger, I liked being Liu Kang because Kang did the Bicycle Kick and he could also turn into a dragon,” Bautista recalls. He now has a different favorite, influenced by one of the game’s iconic lines of dialogue.
The video also reveals new Mortal Kombat 1 footage featuring Scorpion and Liu Kang. While both fighters have been shown before, viewers may notice that Scorpion performs a new combo involving his spear.
