Samsung has consistently enhanced the privacy and security features of its phones and tablets over the years, with notable additions like Knox and Secure Folder. Recently, Samsung introduced two new features aimed at improving data security and privacy for Galaxy smartphones and tablets: Quick Share Private Sharing and Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection. These updates reflect Samsung’s commitment to safeguarding user data with advanced security measures.
Quick Share Private Sharing is a new mode in the existing Quick Share feature. Activated by selecting Quick Share and then choosing Private Sharing from a three-dot menu, this mode allows users to share up to 20 files with a maximum limit of 200MB.
The key aspect of this feature is the control it gives users over who can access the shared files. Users can specify contacts who can view the files, set an expiration timer for file visibility, and ensure that files are shared in read-only mode, preventing recipients from further sharing or taking screenshots.
The files shared through Quick Share Private Sharing are protected using blockchain-based encryption technology, ensuring high security. However, this feature is restricted to Samsung devices and supports specific file types, including various audio, document, image, and video formats. This limitation means that users with non-Samsung Android phones or iPhones cannot use this feature, maintaining a closed ecosystem for Samsung users.
Enhanced Data Protection for Samsung Cloud adds another layer of security by offering end-to-end encryption for all backups and synced data.
Introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, this feature ensures that data stored in Samsung Cloud can only be decrypted on the user’s Samsung phone or tablet, even if the data is compromised on the server. This measure significantly enhances the security of user data, making it inaccessible to unauthorized parties.
Users can activate Enhanced Data Protection by navigating to their device’s security settings and enabling encryption options for backup and synced data. Upon activation, users are provided with a recovery code, which is essential for regaining access to their Samsung account if they lose it. This comprehensive approach to data protection demonstrates Samsung’s dedication to providing robust security solutions for its users.
