On December 25th, Bluesky, a social media app, introduced a new feature showcasing trending topics, allowing users to discover popular discussions within the community. Released as a holiday treat, this feature is accessible on both mobile and web platforms, providing a window into the topics currently engaging users.
The feature can be accessed by selecting the search icon, represented by a magnifying glass, found at the bottom of the screen on the mobile app or on the left sidebar for web users. Below the search bar, Bluesky now displays lists of Trending and Recommended topics. Tapping on any listed topic takes users to posts related to that subject. Recent examples of top trends included “Christmas” and “Nosferatu,” a mix of seasonal and unique themes.
For those who prefer not to see the Trends list, Bluesky provides a simple way to turn it off. Users can remove the list by tapping the “x” in the upper right corner of the Trends section. Alternatively, they can go to the Settings menu, select Content & Media, and toggle off the option to “Enable trending topics.”
The feature is still in its initial phase, marked as “V1” and labeled Beta within the app. Bluesky is encouraging users to provide feedback to help improve the feature. This signals the platform’s intention to refine the experience and address any concerns based on user input.
With the introduction of the Trends feature, Bluesky aims to increase user engagement by highlighting active discussions on the platform. While the feature is in development, it holds promise as a tool to connect users with the most talked-about topics, offering room for customization and improvement based on user suggestions.
