Guerrilla Games recently announced a new voice for the character Sylens in the Horizon series, with Tim Russ stepping in for the role in the upcoming game Lego Horizon Adventures. Russ is an experienced voice actor known for his work in titles like Starfield, Horizon Forbidden West, and The Last of Us Part II.
This recasting follows the passing of Lance Reddick, the original actor behind Sylens. While Russ’s involvement in the new game is confirmed, it remains unclear if he will continue as the character’s voice in future Horizon titles.
To honor Reddick’s contribution, Guerrilla created an in-game memorial for him in the Burning Shores expansion of Horizon Forbidden West. Reddick’s portrayal of Sylens was central to the storyline, and the character seemed poised to play an even larger role in upcoming Horizon games based on hints in the Burning Shores DLC. With Reddick’s passing, however, it’s uncertain how Guerrilla will adjust the character’s storyline and how Russ’s portrayal may shape future developments for Sylens.
In addition to his work in Horizon, Reddick was well-loved in the gaming community for voicing Commander Zavala in Bungie’s Destiny franchise, a role that he played with passion and dedication. Since his passing, the part of Commander Zavala has been taken on by veteran actor Keith David, known for his roles in franchises such as Halo, Mass Effect, Fallout, and Saints Row. Like Reddick, David has a respected history in gaming, bringing expertise and a familiar voice to the character of Zavala for Destiny fans.
Lego Horizon Adventures, co-developed by Guerrilla and Studio Gobo, will be released on November 14 across PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. This new title reimagines the Horizon universe in a playful Lego format, combining the series’ well-loved adventure elements with Lego’s signature charm. With Russ now lending his voice to Sylens, the game may offer a fresh take on the character, drawing from his experience and distinctive voice work in other major game franchises.
Looking forward, Guerrilla’s next major Horizon project is rumored to be an online multiplayer game. This upcoming release is expected to expand the Horizon universe further, creating new ways for fans to connect within the world of Horizon. Guerrilla’s careful selection of experienced voice talent like Tim Russ and Keith David shows a commitment to maintaining strong character continuity and quality performances as the franchise evolves with new formats and stories.
