Meta has quickly rolled out a new feature in Threads that allows users to create custom feeds. This feature, which was in testing for just five days, lets users track specific topics and accounts in a personalized feed, making it easier to follow content that matters to them. To create a custom feed, users can search for a topic and select the “Create new feed” option from the three dots menu. Multiple topics and individual accounts can be added to these feeds, offering flexibility and customization for users.

The introduction of custom feeds comes as Threads faces growing competition from Bluesky. The platform, which also offers custom feeds, has seen a significant rise in popularity recently. As of yesterday, Bluesky surpassed 20 million users, with CEO Jay Graber reporting that the platform has added over a million users per day for several days. This rapid growth shows the increasing interest in decentralized social media platforms.

Despite Bluesky’s recent success, Threads remains much larger in terms of user base. Instagram head Adam Mosseri highlighted that Threads had more than 15 million signups in November alone, with the platform continuing to attract over a million new users every day. This growth shows that Threads is still a significant force in the social media world, even as other platforms like Bluesky gain momentum.

Meta’s swift rollout of the custom feeds feature demonstrates the company’s effort to enhance Threads and retain users amid increasing competition. By offering more control over content, this new feature could help Threads attract and keep users, further strengthening its position as a major player in the social media space.
