Samsung has introduced the Special Edition model of the Galaxy Z Fold, which features a more streamlined and lightweight design compared to the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 6. This new model includes slightly larger displays on both the inner and outer screens, accompanied by a unique banded pattern on the back.
Additionally, it enhances its memory capabilities for Galaxy AI and upgrades the camera system to a 200-megapixel wide-angle lens, offering improved photographic capabilities.
At present, the Galaxy Z Fold SE is only announced for the South Korean market, with a price of 2,789,600 KRW, which translates to over $2,000. It is set to hit the shelves on Friday, October 25th, with China being the only other anticipated market for its release. This limited distribution may make it challenging for potential customers in other regions to access this new model.
In terms of specifications, the device measures 10.6mm in thickness and weighs 236 grams, making it 1.5mm thinner and 3 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. It now offers a standard memory capacity of 16GB, along with an upgraded camera sensor that has increased from 50 to 200 megapixels.
The inner display size has also grown to 8.0 inches, while the outer display is now 6.5 inches, compared to the previous 7.6 and 6.3 inches. These changes make the device slightly taller and wider when folded or unfolded.
Despite these improvements, the Galaxy Z Fold SE may not address the concerns raised in the review of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 from earlier this summer. While it is Samsung’s latest and most advanced foldable device, the modifications may not feel revolutionary in a category that the company has helped to define.
Nonetheless, for users seeking a top-tier foldable experience, the Galaxy Z Fold SE is a noteworthy option, particularly for those willing to import it from South Korea or China.
