Samsung’s next major software update, One UI 7 (Android 15), has faced a significant delay, leaving many users eagerly waiting for its public beta release. The company had initially indicated that a beta program would be available following the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2024, but so far, no official launch date has been provided for the broader public.
While developers were able to access the early version of One UI 7, the broader community is still in the dark. Information about the public beta has trickled out from various sources, including a moderator on Samsung’s Community Forums, who confirmed that users can expect to sign up for the beta once the schedule is confirmed.
A key piece of information from SDC 2024 was that Samsung’s One UI 7 would be available with the Galaxy S25 series, meaning the public won’t see the full update until 2025. This marks a break from Samsung’s typical release schedule, which usually rolls out updates earlier. Despite the delay, the company has given sneak peeks of the upcoming OS changes, including a demo on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
These previews have shown that One UI 7 will introduce a significant redesign, with elements that resemble Apple’s user interface. This includes a softer, more customizable Quick Settings menu, as well as a split between the notifications panel and Quick Settings, allowing users to swipe down on either side of the screen for different functions.
The visual changes in One UI 7 will likely appeal to users who have been requesting a more refined and intuitive design. The new Quick Settings menu is notably more rounded and customizable, allowing users to rearrange “blocks” for a personalized experience.
This design shift seems to indicate that Samsung is focusing on user experience improvements, borrowing elements from both Android and iOS. The separation of the notifications panel from the Quick Settings also aims to make the user interface more organized and efficient, making multitasking easier for users.
While the delay in the public beta has left some frustrated, it’s expected that Samsung will launch it sometime in late 2024. Once the schedule is finalized, users will be able to sign up for the beta through the Samsung Members app. Although the exact timing remains uncertain, it’s likely that the beta will begin shortly before the Galaxy S25 series launch, allowing the company to iron out any last-minute issues before the full release.
Despite the delay in Samsung’s One UI 7 release, the company is gearing up to offer users a preview of the changes through a public beta program. While the release date for this beta remains unclear, it’s expected to start later in 2024, in sync with the launch of the Galaxy S24. This new version of One UI promises to bring significant design and functionality changes, with a more refined, Apple-like interface that focuses on customization and usability.
