Google’s mid-range Pixel series has consistently provided solid specifications but typically featured a smaller battery compared to the flagship models.
However, a new report suggests that the Pixel 9a may come with a significantly larger battery—equivalent to the current flagship model.
According to a recent report from Android Headlines, Google is planning to equip the Pixel 9a with a 5,000 mAh battery. This is an upgrade from the Pixel 8a’s 4,492 mAh battery, marking a substantial increase in capacity.
If accurate, this would make the Pixel 9a’s battery capacity equal to that of Google’s flagship Pixel 9 Pro XL, which also has a 5,000 mAh battery.
The Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold models feature slightly smaller batteries at 4,700 mAh and 4,650 mAh, respectively.
However, there’s an important caveat regarding the Pixel 9a’s dimensions.
Reportedly, the Pixel 9a will measure 154.7 x 73.2 x 8.9mm, which is close to the Pixel 8a’s dimensions of 152.1 x 72.7 x 8.9mm.
With the new model being only about 2% taller and less than 1% wider, while maintaining the same thickness, it’s unclear how Google plans to fit an 11% larger battery into this device.
Whatever approach Google is taking behind the scenes, it’s promising news if it turns out to be true.
The Pixel 9a is also expected to bring notable camera enhancements, a bold redesign, and a significantly earlier release date.
