The Samsung Galaxy S24 series in the US is now receiving the October 2024 security update. AT&T has begun rolling out this important firmware patch for its carrier-branded S24 models. The update aims to improve both the system’s security and its overall stability, ensuring that the devices are better protected against potential threats.
Samsung published the details of the October security patch, highlighting its significance for Galaxy smartphones. This update addresses two critical and 28 high-level CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures), along with 12 Samsung-specific Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVEs). These fixes are intended to bolster the security of the devices and protect users from known exploits.
One of the major vulnerabilities included in the patch is CVE-2024-44068, which is categorized as a high-severity flaw. This issue relates to a “Use-After-Free” condition in the mobile processor, potentially allowing privilege escalation. The affected chipsets include the Exynos 9820, 9825, 980, 990, 850, and W920. Samsung has emphasized the importance of addressing this specific vulnerability in the latest update.
Users of the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and S24 Ultra can easily install the October update by opening the Settings app, selecting Software Update, and then choosing “Download and Install.” It is recommended to connect to a Wi-Fi network with no data limits for a smooth installation. In other news, Samsung confirmed that the One UI 7 Beta will be launched later this year, with the Galaxy S24 series expected to be included in the first phase of testing. The final version of One UI 7 will be revealed at the next Galaxy Unpacked event.
