The Pixel Weather app, introduced as part of the Android 15 Pixel Drop, is now being made available to all Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 onward, including the Pixel Tablet.
This app isn’t a new download; instead, it updates the existing weather service you’re likely familiar with as a Pixel user.
Simply go to the Play Store, update the Google app to version 1.0.20240910.x or later, and you’ll find a new Weather icon added to your app grid.
Restarting your device afterward is recommended to ensure that all widgets and the “At a Glance” feature use the newly updated app effectively.
With this latest weather app, signing in with your Google Account allows your saved locations to sync across all devices, and each city has its own corresponding background image.
You can further personalize your experience by holding and dragging weather cards (except for the hourly forecast) to rearrange them.
These customizations are saved per city, providing a unique layout for each location. Additionally, tablets and foldable devices benefit from a two-column layout.
The Pixel Weather app offers comprehensive data, including Precipitation, Wind, Sunrise & sunset times, UV index, Air quality, Visibility, Humidity, and Pressure.
It also features a six-hour precipitation forecast map (available in the US, UK, and most of Europe, with the exception of Italy and Luxembourg) powered by Google’s nowcasting technology.
For users in the UK, Germany, France, and Italy, pollen count information is also accessible.Personally, even when not using a Pixel device, I often default to Google’s Weather app, as it provides nearly all the information I need at a glance.
The new radar function could use some improvement, as it’s not particularly useful in its current state, in my opinion. I hope they enhance this feature in future updates.
Nonetheless, this latest release enables more Pixel users to experience the new features of the service, which is a great advancement.
