Nothing has introduced the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition, a distinctive version of its Phone 2A Plus featuring a glow-in-the-dark design. This edition originated from a contest that invited community members to contribute their ideas for the smartphone.

Marking Nothing’s first major initiative in co-creating hardware, the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition showcases the power of collective creativity. The contest attracted over 900 entries, enabling fans to shape various aspects, including the phone’s look and marketing approach.

Scheduled for launch on November 12th, the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition will be priced at $399, with only 1,000 units available for purchase. This limited availability is intended to generate excitement and urgency among enthusiasts and potential buyers.

While maintaining its core functionality, the phone features an enhanced design with a green phosphorescent material that emits a soft glow in dark environments. Importantly, this glow does not drain battery power, as it charges through exposure to daylight, making it both innovative and energy-efficient.

The design concept for the Community Edition was crafted by Astrid Vanhuyse and Kenta Akasaki, who collaborated with Nothing’s Adam Bates and Lucy Birley to bring their vision to fruition. The glow-in-the-dark feature is complemented by a redesigned packaging concept from Ian Henry Simmonds, incorporating reflective elements and a macro image of the phone itself. This thoughtful packaging not only elevates the product’s visual appeal but also reinforces the collaborative spirit behind its creation.

In addition to the physical design enhancements, the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition will come bundled with a new collection of wallpapers. Developed by Andrés Mateos and Nothing’s software design team, this “Connected Collection” includes six wallpapers inspired by the phone’s hardware. These designs aim to provide a cohesive visual identity that aligns with the phone’s glowing features, enriching the overall user experience.

This Community Edition exemplifies Nothing’s commitment to engaging its audience in the design process. It builds on previous initiatives, such as a collaboration between CMF, its affordability-focused subbrand, and Bambu Lab, which encouraged CMF Phone 1 users to create 3D-printed accessories. By involving its community in the development of the Phone 2A Plus Community Edition, Nothing not only enhances its product offerings but also deepens its connection with its followers, illustrating the potential of collaborative innovation.
