Fallout: London, a popular total conversion mod for Fallout 4, has reached a major milestone with over one million players. Created by Team FOLON, the mod brings a fresh take to the Fallout series by moving the setting from the United States to post-apocalyptic London.

The mod is filled with famous British landmarks, cultural references, and a notable voice cast, including Neil Newbon from Baldur’s Gate 3 and former UK Speaker of the House John Bercow. By reimagining Fallout in a new location with unique characters, Fallout: London has become one of the most successful video game mods to date.

The mod was originally planned for an April 2024 release, but an unexpected update to Fallout 4 by Bethesda complicated its timeline. Dean Carter, Team FOLON’s lead project manager, expressed disappointment with Bethesda’s lack of communication about the update, noting that it created additional challenges for Fallout: London’s development.

Despite these hurdles, the mod launched successfully in July through a partnership with GOG. On October 23, also known as Fallout Day in the game’s lore, GOG celebrated the mod’s success, marking the occasion as the day one million players had downloaded it.

GOG praised Team FOLON for Fallout: London’s achievements, highlighting the significant milestone reached on Fallout Day. Team FOLON also posted a statement on their Discord to thank the community for its support, noting that the journey had been unforgettable. They reassured players that they would continue to address technical issues and improve the mod, ending with a playful nod to London’s transit system with the message, “Stay safe, and remember. Mind the gap.”

The success of Fallout: London aligns with a broader resurgence in the Fallout franchise. Bethesda is set to host a Fallout Day broadcast to announce new developments for Fallout 76, and the recent Fallout TV show on Prime Video has further boosted the franchise’s popularity.

Bethesda has also confirmed that Fallout 5 will eventually be developed, but the studio’s current focus is on The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda’s Todd Howard has said that future Fallout games will remain in the United States, despite the success of Fallout: London’s international approach.

In the meantime, fans of Fallout have plenty to explore with Fallout: London, as well as Fallout 76 and previous games in the series. Fallout: London offers a distinct experience that both enhances and reimagines the traditional Fallout universe, giving players a new way to enjoy the series while Bethesda prepares for future installments. The continued interest in mod projects like Fallout: London ensures that the Fallout franchise remains vibrant and engaging across different media and creative formats.
