Google announced today that the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 will receive the latest Watch OS 5 update. The update begins rolling out to devices running Watch OS 3.5 and Watch OS 4, with users set to receive notifications over the coming week as the update becomes available.
The new operating system introduces several upgrades, including improved camera controls, the addition of Pixel Recorder support, and a grid-view app launcher for easier navigation. Despite earlier speculation, Google has not confirmed whether Watch OS 5 will enhance battery life on older models.
Meanwhile, Google’s recently launched Pixel Watch 3 has already made a strong impression, particularly with its improved battery performance compared to the Pixel Watch 2. The Pixel Watch 3 was the first in Google’s lineup to feature Watch OS 5, showcasing the operating system’s new features and capabilities.
Before coming to Pixel devices, Watch OS 5 initially debuted on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra. Now, older Pixel Watches will benefit from the update, allowing users to enjoy many of the features found on newer models, even if the battery improvements are still uncertain.
