ID Quantique (IDQ) and SK Telecom have introduced the Galaxy Quantum 5, a new smartphone that integrates quantum technology with Samsung Knox to enhance security. This partnership marks a significant advancement in mobile security, addressing the growing need for robust protection as smartphones become central to activities such as banking, shopping, and health management.

The Galaxy Quantum 5 features a groundbreaking security element: the world’s smallest Quantum Random Number Generator (QRNG) chipset, developed by ID Quantique. Measuring only 2.5 x 2.5mm, this tiny chip generates true random numbers essential for securing various authentication processes and safeguarding sensitive data, including biometric and payment information, from potential breaches.

A unique aspect of the Galaxy Quantum 5 is the ‘Quantum Indicator’ notification, which appears on the phone’s status bar to inform users when quantum security services are active. This feature can be toggled on or off, but the QRNG chip operates continuously in the background to maintain security, providing a strong defense across a range of applications and services.

The smartphone also boasts advanced AI-driven features, such as the ‘Circle to Search’ function, enhanced night photography, and a larger, more refined display. These innovations aim to deliver a high-quality user experience by combining cutting-edge technology with enhanced security.

Yoo Chul-joon from SK Telecom and Grégoire Ribordy from ID Quantique both highlighted the dual focus of the Galaxy Quantum 5 on security and performance. Yoo emphasized the device’s premium features at an accessible price, while Ribordy addressed the growing concerns about data theft and the QRNG chip’s role in protecting user information, reflecting a commitment to addressing contemporary security challenges.
