WeChat Pay MY has announced it will discontinue its payment services in Malaysia starting September 1, 2024, as part of a “business strategy adjustment.” The company specified that users can withdraw their ewallet balances via the ewallet portal until December 31, 2024.
After this date, special withdrawal arrangements will be available from January 1, 2025. Additionally, new user registrations for the ewallet service will no longer be accepted.
To facilitate the transition, current users are advised to log in to their WeChat account, navigate to the withdrawal section under Pay and Services, and follow the provided instructions to withdraw their funds promptly. The company emphasized the importance of completing the withdrawal process as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition.
Despite the discontinuation of WeChat Pay MY, WeChat’s existing messaging service and other functionalities, including Weixin Pay, will remain operational. Weixin Pay will continue to support payments for Malaysians traveling in China and for Chinese tourists making payments in Malaysia, ensuring continued convenience for cross-border transactions.
WeChat Pay MY, launched in Malaysia in 2018, served as a mobile payment and digital wallet service integrated with the WeChat messaging app. The company clarified that the discontinuation is specific to local users and does not affect Chinese tourists using WeChat Pay in Malaysia.
