Pico Interactive, a subsidiary of ByteDance, has introduced its new XR headset, the Pico 4 Ultra, set to launch in China next month with a starting price of around $600. This headset marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Pico 4, incorporating advanced features and improved technology for an enhanced mixed and virtual reality experience.
The Pico 4 Ultra builds on the Pico 4 platform and includes a range of notable updates. It features color passthrough cameras and depth sensors, enhancing its mixed reality capabilities. The headset is powered by the second generation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 chip, the same processor found in Meta Quest 3, ensuring robust performance for demanding applications.
Key specifications of the Pico 4 Ultra include 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3. Its mixed reality sensors consist of dual 32 MP color passthrough cameras, a single iToF depth-sensing camera, and four environment tracking cameras. The display boasts a resolution of 2,160 × 2,160 pixels per eye, with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and pancake lenses offering a 105° field of view.
The headset is equipped with dual stereo speakers, four microphones, and supports spatial audio recording. It houses a 5,700 mAh battery that supports fast charging with QC 4.0 and PD 3.0. The Pico 4 Ultra also features an adjustable interpupillary distance (IPD) ranging from 58 mm to 72 mm, catering to a wide range of users.
Currently, the Pico 4 Ultra is available for pre-order in China with shipping set to commence on September 2nd. Although there is no confirmation about its availability in other regions, it has been certified in South Korea. Pico’s global launch strategy remains to be seen, with the original Pico 4 already available in various East Asian and European countries, but not yet in the United States.
