This app allows users to connect any device with an HDMI or DisplayPort output to their VR headset, providing an alternative for those who need larger or more accessible screens when standard displays aren’t practical. The app enhances versatility by enabling users to view content from various devices directly on their VR headset.
The Meta Quest HDMI Link app is available for download on Meta’s App Lab. This new feature allows users to watch videos, play games, or use their computer on the VR headset from any device connected through HDMI or DisplayPort. To enable the connection, users will need a UVC and UAC-compatible capture card along with a USB-C male cable to link the capture card to the headset.
While Meta already offers wireless options like Quest Air Link and Xbox Cloud Gaming, which allow wireless streaming of content to the VR headset, HDMI Link provides a wired alternative. This can be especially useful in situations where Wi-Fi access is limited or unreliable. Additionally, HDMI Link allows users to connect to devices that are not typically compatible with Meta Quest headsets, further broadening its range of use.
