In September, Apple is expected to reveal its latest iPhone models, maintaining its tradition of releasing new devices in that month, a practice in place since the iPhone 5. However, the precise date of this year’s announcement remains uncertain due to conflicting reports. While some sources suggest an earlier reveal, others have spread misinformation, leading to confusion and speculation.
Filipe Espósito from 9to5Mac has proposed that the iPhone 16 series might be revealed a week earlier than previously anticipated. This theory is based on reports by Mark Gurman, who suggested that iOS 18 could be ready ahead of schedule. If this is accurate, Apple might choose to accelerate its launch timeline to start sales sooner, benefiting from an earlier release.
Typically, Apple sends out event invitations about two weeks in advance, though this timing can vary. With the presidential debate scheduled for September 10, it is less likely that Apple will hold its event on that date. Instead, earlier dates such as September 3 or September 4 have been proposed, though the presence of the IFA tech show in Berlin around that time could make these dates less favorable for Apple.
Recent excitement has centered around a purported leak of the event invite, which has since been debunked as a hoax. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman criticized the leaked invite, highlighting that genuine Apple invitations rarely, if ever, leak beforehand. The fake invite was created as a mock-up by designer @lorevfx and was mistakenly taken as real by the leaker Majin Bu.
While the fake invite included some plausible details, such as the tagline “Ready. Set. Capture.” and a new bronze color option, these were not authentic. Apple’s event invitations are tightly controlled and it is unlikely that an accurate invite would leak ahead of time.
As for the actual event, while September 10 remains a potential date for the keynote, it is not definitive. The release date for the new iPhone is expected to be September 20, with the keynote possibly occurring a day or two before or after the widely speculated date. Official confirmation from Apple will clarify the exact timing.
