Apple has announced its upcoming “Glowtime” event on September 9 at its Cupertino headquarters, where it is expected to reveal the next generation of iPhones. The event will be streamed live from the Steve Jobs Theater at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, and will be available to watch on Apple’s website, YouTube, and Apple TV. The event imagery hints at a glowing theme, and there is much anticipation about what new features and devices Apple will introduce.
The star of the event is expected to be the iPhone 16, with rumors suggesting the debut of four new models along with a new Apple Watch. Speculation also surrounds a potential refresh of the AirPods, which have not seen significant updates since last year’s addition of a USB-C port. The AirPods update is seen as necessary to maintain their competitive edge, particularly against Samsung’s Galaxy Buds.
One of the most talked-about potential features of the iPhone 16 is the introduction of replaceable batteries, possibly influenced by European regulations that require easier battery replacement. Although Apple has until 2027 to fully comply, it is believed that the iPhone 16 may showcase the early stages of this change, enhancing repairability.
Additionally, the iPhone 16 is rumored to feature a stacked camera design, which would support recording spatial video footage, a feature that aligns with the capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro.
There has been considerable discussion about the iPhone 16 Pro Max being available in a brown color, a surprising choice given the event’s glowing theme. This bronze-like color, which has yet to be confirmed by Apple, has sparked curiosity and debate among potential buyers. The design is reminiscent of the iPhone X, and the focus on retro aesthetics combined with modern technology has captured attention.
This event also marks the ten-year anniversary of the Apple Watch, with reports indicating that a special edition, possibly named “Watch X,” could be introduced. This new model is expected to feature a thinner chassis and offer a broader range of sizes, from 41mm and 45mm to a larger 49mm standard.
Meanwhile, the AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods 4 are anticipated to receive significant design upgrades, potentially including active noise cancellation (ANC) in more affordable models, further enhancing their appeal in the competitive wireless earbud market.
