Samsung is launching the new Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Buds 3, featuring a design shift from their previous in-ear models to a stemmed look reminiscent of Apple’s AirPods.

This design, especially noticeable in the white and gunmetal gray finishes, marks a significant change from the earlier subtle designs of Samsung’s earbuds. The new “blade” design and finishes evoke a futuristic feel akin to Tesla’s Cybertruck, though they unmistakably draw inspiration from AirPods.

The decision to adopt a stem form factor was driven by data suggesting it offers better comfort and stability. Despite the nostalgic appeal of previous models like the vibrant purple Buds 2 Pro and bean-shaped Buds Live, Samsung’s design team has chosen a more conventional look, which may ultimately enhance user experience. The new Galaxy Buds now feature pinch and swipe controls similar to the AirPods Pro, streamlining user interaction.

The Buds 3 Pro, priced at $249.99, has a unique design element: thin “blade lights” on each earbud that indicate Bluetooth pairing status and can remain lit continuously. Unfortunately, these lights do not show battery levels.

The Pro model has silicone tips for an in-ear fit, while the regular Buds 3, at $179.99, offer an open-style design. Both models include active noise cancellation, but the Buds 3 Pro are expected to deliver superior audio performance due to their two-way drivers.

The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro introduces adaptive noise cancellation that adjusts based on surrounding sounds, such as reducing ANC to allow important sounds like sirens to pass through.

Both earbuds are rated IP57 for dust and water resistance and support wireless charging. Samsung’s proprietary Bluetooth codec enables high-quality audio streaming with compatible Samsung phones, but these earbuds still lack LDAC and multipoint connectivity.

Battery life differs slightly between the models: the Buds 3 Pro can last up to six hours with ANC on, extending to 26 hours with the case, while the Buds 3 offers five hours with ANC on, up to 24 hours with the case.

With ANC off, the Buds 3 can last up to 30 hours. Both earbuds promise improved voice call quality thanks to the inclusion of super wideband technology. Available for preorder now, these earbuds will be on sale starting July 24th.
