In the US, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 will come with Google Messages set as the default messaging app, rather than Samsung Messages. Users who still want to use Samsung Messages will have to download it from the Galaxy Store, where it is available for installation.
Samsung’s decision to use Google Messages as the default for their devices started in 2022, which significantly advanced RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging. This move was aimed at enhancing messaging experiences with improved features for expressing emotions and ensuring secure communication.
The change in default messaging apps applies specifically to the US market. According to reports, Samsung has not announced this update for other regions, such as Canada and Europe, where the Samsung Messages app will continue to be pre-installed on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6.
The shift underscores Samsung’s commitment to standardizing and enhancing the messaging experience across its devices, reflecting a broader trend of integrating more features and functionalities provided by Google in their devices.
