Trainers now have the exciting ability to fuse Pokémon, with Necrozma being the first to experience this transformation in Pokémon GO. This allows Necrozma to take on two alternate forms: Dusk Mane Necrozma by fusing with Solgaleo, and Dawn Wings Necrozma by fusing with Lunala. This feature will be available to all Trainers during Pokémon GO Fest 2024: Global.
The fusion process combines Necrozma with either Solgaleo or Lunala, utilizing newly discovered Solar and Lunar Fusion Energy. Trainers cannot catch Necrozma in its fused forms directly from raids; they must catch a normal Necrozma and then use the required resources to fuse it. The resources needed include Fusion Energy, Necrozma Candy, and Cosmog Candy.
To fuse Necrozma with Solgaleo, Trainers need 1,000 Solar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy, resulting in Dusk Mane Necrozma. For Dawn Wings Necrozma, Trainers will need 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy, 30 Necrozma Candy, and 30 Cosmog Candy. The fused form retains Necrozma’s stats, unaffected by Solgaleo or Lunala’s stats, making it strategic to use less valuable Solgaleo or Lunala for the fusion.
On July 14, Trainers can obtain a Cosmog through free research, which can evolve into Solgaleo or Lunala for the fusion process. However, once fused, Solgaleo or Lunala cannot be used independently for any other purpose, similar to shiny Pokémon that are restricted from trading under certain conditions. Trainers should note that re-fusing Pokémon will incur the same resource cost as the initial fusion.
Fused Necrozma forms come with special moves: Dusk Mane Necrozma knows Sunsteel Strike, and Dawn Wings Necrozma knows Moongeist Beam. These moves are powerful in both Trainer battles and raids and can be accessed anytime given enough resources. Fused Pokémon cannot be left at gyms or traded, but can be powered up post-fusion, unlike Mega Pokémon.
Fused Necrozma forms maintain all characteristics of the original Necrozma, including IVs, buddy status, level, and shiny status. The fusion is permanent unless Trainers choose to un-fuse, and each fused form occupies two Pokémon storage slots. There is no cooldown or time limit on fusion, offering flexibility for Trainers to manage their fused Pokémon as they see fit.
