The Quest v68 update introduces several enhancements across Meta’s VR headset lineup, including the Quest 3, Quest 2, and Quest Pro, as well as the addition of a new app named Layout. This update, which will be rolled out gradually, brings significant improvements aimed at enhancing the user experience.

For Quest 3 users, the v68 update includes a reduced latency feature through a new frame timing algorithm for OpenXR, aimed at improving the overall frame rate and reducing stuttering in OpenXR applications. Additionally, the update introduces an experimental Content Adaptive Brightness feature that adjusts screen brightness based on content, potentially improving display performance in darker scenes.

Another notable improvement for the Quest 3 is the increase in screenshot resolution, from 1440×1440 to 2160×2160. This enhancement allows for higher-quality screenshots, which can be particularly useful for capturing more detailed images without needing to rely on video extraction.

The update also enhances the app management experience with the ability to download multiple apps and updates simultaneously. A new Downloads tab in the Library will help users manage and prioritize their downloads, replacing the previous system where only one app could be downloaded at a time.

Meta is also introducing a new first-party app called Layout with v68. This app helps users measure real-world objects and visualize spaces for potential new items. It includes tools for measuring dimensions and ensuring that wall-mounted items are level. Additionally, the update brings improvements to the virtual keyboard, audio balance control, low battery alerts, and cloud backup management, as well as in-headset Touch controller pairing.
