HTC recently teased a new VR headset through a trailer on their HTC Vive YouTube channel. However, the trailer provided no detailed information or a proper look at the headset itself. Despite the lack of official details, preliminary specs for the upcoming headset have surfaced on social media, suggesting some intriguing features.

HTC is well-known for its VR technology, though recent VR news has largely focused on Meta Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro. HTC’s headsets are known for their high performance and high price, positioning them as premium options in the VR market.

According to VR hardware analyst Bradley Lynch, the new headset will share the same displays and controllers as the HTC Vive Focus 3, and use the same chipset as the HTC Vive XR Elite. The headset is also expected to be compatible with accessories designed for the Vive Focus 3.

The leaked specs include dual color cameras with a depth sensor, a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and built-in eye tracking. While the refresh rate might be seen as a downside compared to the preferred 120 Hz, the inclusion of eye tracking and USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode could enhance the headset’s appeal. It is also anticipated to feature more RAM than its predecessor.

HTC might reveal more information about the headset at the upcoming Augmented World Expo (AWE) in Vienna. This delay from the Long Beach AWE event suggests the headset wasn’t ready for an earlier reveal. Despite hoping for an affordable price, it’s expected that the new headset will be priced higher than the Meta Quest 3 but not as steep as the Apple Vision Pro.
