Google is gearing up for a major announcement in August, where it plans to reveal the highly anticipated Pixel 9 series alongside what appears to be the Pixel Watch 3. Recent regulatory filings at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US, spotted by Android Police, strongly suggest that the launch of these devices is imminent.
The Pixel Watch 3 is expected to come in four models with codenames GBDU9, GRY0E, GG3HH, and GGE4J. Notably, two of these models will support LTE cellular connectivity, while the other two will rely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This indicates that Google is likely to release variants in 41mm and 45mm sizes, aligning with previous rumors about the smartwatch’s sizing options.
Key upgrades in the Pixel Watch 3 include support for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands, as well as Wi-Fi 6, which promise enhanced connectivity and performance compared to its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2. These improvements are expected to bolster the device’s capabilities when connected to wireless networks.
A significant enhancement across all four models is the inclusion of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which facilitates improved close-range connectivity and location tracking. Similar to its implementation in the Apple Watch 9 and Apple’s other devices, UWB is poised to enhance functionalities such as precise device locating, although Google’s Find My Device network currently lacks support for this feature.
Rumors also suggest that the Pixel Watch 3 will introduce a larger model, expanding user choice with different size options for the first time. Additionally, there’s speculation about new sensors being integrated into the smartwatch, potentially enhancing its health and fitness tracking capabilities.
The upcoming launch of the Pixel 9 series and Pixel Watch 3 signals Google’s continued efforts to innovate in the wearable technology space, promising users a blend of advanced features and diverse options to cater to various preferences and needs.
