DHL eCommerce, a division of the world’s leading logistics company, DHL Group, recently moved from its former location in Grand Prairie, TX, to a 220,000-square-foot distribution center.
The new facility, located at 5320 West Airport Freeway, Irving, TX, is just six miles from the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
As a fully owned distribution center, DHL eCommerce invested $57.5 million in the land, construction, sustainability features, and new automation.
The facility, operating with three shifts and approximately 150 employees, will handle B2C e-commerce domestic inbound and outbound parcels and packages.
The center is equipped with a state-of-the-art single-level next-generation loop sorter, capable of processing 24,000 parcels per hour through eight induction lines (four inbound and four outbound), doubling the capacity of the previous location. The loop sorter boasts an accuracy rate of 97% to over 99%.
Several customized green features help keep the building cool. These include a Building Management System for managing environmental controls, exhaust fans and louvers for fresh air flow, an insulated roof deck, solar shades on the exterior windows, and LED lighting inside and outside.
Additionally, over 30 native trees were planted on the property to provide shade, and one EV charger has been installed that can charge two vehicles simultaneously.
The distribution center features 46 loading dock doors, two drive-in ramps, 11 offices, conference and huddle rooms, 12 cubicles, a kitchenette, and a multipurpose room for nursing mothers and other uses.
“We are thrilled to announce the relocation of DHL eCommerce’s distribution center to a larger facility in thriving Irving, TX, with easy access to the international airport for air and ground transport,” said Lee Spratt, CEO of DHL eCommerce, Americas.
“This relocation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to innovation and increasing our capacity to process our customers’ ever-growing shipping needs.”
