The Humane AI Pin is set to begin shipping in March. On Friday, the company announced on X (formerly Twitter) that “those who placed priority orders will receive their AI Pins first when we start shipping in March.”
The company had earlier projected that the screen-less wearable device, intended to replace a smartphone, would be available in “early 2024.”
Founded by former Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, Humane sees the smartphone, still a key product for their former employer, as nearing obsolescence.
“The last era has plateaued,” Chaudhri said in a November press briefing. He views the AI-powered wearable as “a new way of thinking, a new sense of opportunity.”
The $699 Humane AI Pin does not feature a screen; instead, it uses voice commands and a projector to display relevant information on the user’s hand.
The founders emphasize the device’s focus on privacy and contextual intelligence, claiming it “quickly understands what you need, connecting you to the right AI experience or service instantly.”
The company has partnered with OpenAI, Microsoft, and Tidal to provide “access to some of the world’s most powerful AI models and platforms.”
The pin operates on a quad-core Snapdragon processor with a dedicated Qualcomm AI Engine running its Cosmos OS software.
It is available in three color options, with two of them adding an extra $100 to the base price.
To access the pin’s cellular data, built as an MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) on T-Mobile’s network, users must pay $24 monthly.
In addition to announcing the March shipping date, Humane stated that remaining orders will be fulfilled in the order they were received.
The Humane AI Pin is available for pre-order on Humane’s website. The Eclipse (matte black on black) is priced at $699, while the Lunar (polished chrome on white) and Equinox (polished chrome on black) color options are priced at $799.
