Walmart Shoppers Bringing Back Sensory-Friendly Hours

Starting Friday, Walmart shoppers will notice some subtle changes at their local stores.

The retail giant is reinstating its sensory-friendly shopping hours from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily at locations across the country.

This initiative aims to provide a less stimulating and more inclusive shopping experience for individuals with sensory disabilities.

Walmart had implemented similar hours during the back-to-school season, making minor adjustments such as switching TV screens to static images, turning off overhead radios, and dimming lights where feasible.

“Several associates expressed a desire to keep this program running throughout the year,” said Tyler Morgan, a Walmart store manager. “We have associates with autism, ADHD, and other conditions, and one associate noted that this was the first time the company had done something specifically for him.”

Morgan added, “I believe we could all benefit from some calm during the hectic holiday season, so I hope this program can continue.”

Walmart has not set an end date for the program and is open to feedback on how to further improve these sensory-friendly measures in their stores.
