Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has stated on Threads that he is “ready to fight” X owner Elon Musk but cautions that no official date should be believed until confirmed by him directly.
Musk had claimed on Friday morning that the fight would be livestreamed on X and “Meta,” and described it as an event reminiscent of “ancient Rome.”
Italy’s culture minister quickly responded, clarifying that the planning is not as advanced as Musk suggests and that no event would take place in Rome. Zuckerberg has now indicated that he, too, is surprised by the lack of concrete details.
“I love this sport and I’ve been ready to fight since the day Elon challenged me,” Zuckerberg said. “If he ever agrees on an actual date, you’ll hear it from me. Until then, please assume anything he says has not been agreed upon.”
The idea of a cage match was originally proposed by Musk in June.
Zuckerberg, who has been training in martial arts and competing in Jiu Jitsu, has shown enthusiasm for the fight from the start.
However, despite Zuckerberg suggesting an August 26th date for the bout, the fight has not materialized. Musk mentioned on Friday that he would need “a few months” to recover from minor shoulder surgery, which could delay the match indefinitely.
Zuckerberg did suggest the possibility of a future fighting event, whether or not Musk is involved. “Not holding my breath for Elon, but I’ll share details on my next fight when I’m ready,” he said on Friday.
“When I compete, I want to do it in a way that highlights the elite athletes at the top of the game. You achieve this by collaborating with professional organizations like the UFC or ONE to ensure a well-executed event and create a great card.”
He also posted a photo from a training session held in his own backyard octagon.
