Google’s upcoming Pixel 8 Pro might include a novel feature that isn’t commonly found in smartphones. According to a video, the new Pixel device appears to have the ability to measure a person’s temperature.
If the leak proves accurate, this flagship Pixel will come equipped with an integrated thermometer. The video reveals an infrared sensor, similar to those used in contactless thermometers, embedded in the metal panel alongside the rear cameras.
From the demonstration of the thermometer feature, it seems users will need to remove any glasses or other accessories from their eyes and forehead.
They should then position the sensor as close to their forehead as possible without making contact and move the phone towards their temple within a span of 5 seconds.
This sensor may also be capable of measuring the temperature of inanimate objects, although the video did not provide details on how this functionality would work.
It has also been reported that Google’s employees have been testing this feature.
Previous leaks featuring computer-generated renders depicted the Pixel 8 Pro as a rounded version of the Pixel 7, and the new video shows a device consistent with these renders.
Despite the similarities in design with its predecessor, the new phone features its three rear cameras housed in a single module, as opposed to the Pixel 7 Pro where one camera sensor was in a separate module.
The inclusion of a thermometer is an intriguing addition for a smartphone, especially as pandemic-related measures are no longer in place.
However, it’s important to note that this information is based on a leak, and it remains uncertain whether the Pixel 8 Pros available to consumers will actually include this sensor.
The video has been removed due to a copyright claim, but a reader from the publication has shared a copy, which we have embedded below. First leaked video of the Pixel 8 Pro showcasing the phone and its new thermometer feature.
