Nearly 5 million bottles of Fabuloso multi-purpose cleaner have been recalled due to a “risk of bacterial growth,” according to the company.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a preservative “was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing,” leading to the growth of Pseudomonas species, a type of bacteria commonly found in soil and water. Fabuloso is a product of Colgate-Palmolive (CL).

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) highlighted that individuals at higher risk include those with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions. The bacteria can “enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin,” the CPSC warned.

An alert issued by the CPSC on Wednesday detailed that the 4.9 million affected bottles were manufactured between December 14, 2022, and January 23, 2023, and were sold at various retailers including Amazon, Dollar General, Home Depot, Sam’s Club, and Walmart. According to the company, around 3.9 million bottles were never released for sale.

The recalled products have lot codes starting with the first eight digits of 2348US78 through 2365US78 and 3001US78 through 3023US78, the CPSC stated. Consumers with these products are advised to request a refund via a special website or by calling the company at 1-855-703-0166.

Fabuloso is instructing affected customers to “immediately stop using the recalled product” and to dispose of it in its container.
