Fashion company Zalando announced a significant next step in their business. The German ecommerce company will open two new online shops in Ireland and the Czech Republic — the first market expansion by Zalando since 2013.
The move – five years in the making – will allow the company to be available to 15.4 million new potential customers, a major growth advantage.
CEO Rubin Ritter expressed his excitement about the expansion in an official company statement.
“We are excited to bring Zalando to new customers, and we believe our unlimited assortment, personalized shopping experience, and substantial convenience offering will resonate well with Irish and Czech customers.”
Ritter further explained how they’re smartly expanding and leveraging such knowledge of the European markets while still operating in the usual Zalando style: launch, learn, iterate, and scale.
Zalando is a large European platform based in Berlin, Germany that hosts over 2,000 international fashion brands. The company includes popular brands such as Adidas, Lacoste, Nike, Michael Kors, and more. They offer clothing and shoes for men, women, and children of all ages. It opened in 2008 and has since been valued at an estimated 4.49 billion EUR.
The company is currently available in 15 European countries — soon to be 17 with the new additions. The major announcement was made official on June 4, 2018 by Zalando’s press room. Zalando is expected to open the Czech Republic and Ireland online stores during the summer of 2018.
Monki Brand Now Available Through Zalando
The addition of the Czech Republic and Ireland branches is not the only business move by the company.
Priding itself on “unlimited choice[s] of fashion,” Zalando has also announced their partnership with Monki, a clothing company owned by the H&M Group, inspired by a mix of Asian street and Scandinavian styles. Zalando will be an official reseller of the Monki brand later this summer.
The H&M Group recently opened their company to third-party resellers to reach a wider audience. Monki is the third brand from the H&M Group to be sold through Zalando, following Cheap Monday and Weekday.
Other brands owned by the group include H&M, COS, & Other Stories, and Arket. Most of the brands are popular among young men and women in their late teens and 20’s.
Monki products are expected to be live on the site in August 2018.
More Language Options Added to German and Swiss Zalando Sites
In yet another major effort to reach more customers, Zalando plans to add two new language options to the German and Swiss shops. An option for English will be available on the German site Zalando.de. Italian will soon be added to Switzerland’s site Zalando.ch.
The move will allow for a larger reach of German and Swiss customers of various cultural backgrounds and overall inclusivity of the company.
While there have been no official plans to add even more languages to other websites, the announcement by Zalando may mark the beginning of a more globally minded company platform.
